Are houseflies harmful?
Mostly, housefly infestations are nothing but an annoyance. However, don’t forget that houseflies can also carry viruses and bacteria that can spread once they start to bite. Flies are likely to spread food poisoning, cholera, typhoid, and several eye infections as well.
So, what can be done to prevent all these diseases and to get rid of the flies?
DIY homemade fly traps
It is right that the most effective way to get rid of flies is calling up for the help of professional pest controllers however, you can try some DIY methods that might get you rid of these little monsters. Homemade fly traps are pretty easy, simple, and also cost-effective, however, their effectiveness changes and are not steady.
Vinegar and dish soap
A lot of people might already know that a mixture of vinegar and dish soap helps you trap flies. To use this, mix about an inch of apple cider vinegar and just a few drops of dish soap in a large class. Then make sure to cover the glass with plastic wrap. Protect the plastic wrap with a rubber band and make small holes in the top.
How will this work? Well, flies will be attracted to the vinegar in the glass and will fly over the holes. Though, the dish soap causes the flies to sink instead of being able to get to vinegar.
Soda bottle traps
To use this method, start by cleaning an empty, plastic soda bottle. Then, cut the top third of the bottle by cutting where the top of the label used to be earlier. After that is done, pour a sweet liquid like honey or sugar water, into the larger part of the bottle. Then, turn the top third of the bottle upside-down, turning it into a coned shape bottle, and put it in the opening of the larger section of the bottle. This will help you in such a way that flies will find their way into the bottle but will be failed when they would want to come out.
Even after trying all the home remedies or over-the-counter products, the number of these flies does not reduce, then maybe you should simply look for the help of professionals. However, you can always try getting rid of them using harmless ways and methods.
